The PR series has set the benchmark in the market in terms of performance and precision for years now. With the new PR I, UnionChemnitz expands the portfolio of the successful series of boring mills in floor plate design. With boring spindle diameters of 130 and 150 mm, the new machines are the ideal solutions for customers that can forego performance data in the highest ranges, but require a dynamic and flexible boring mill to machine different workpieces.
“We focused on economical machining of small to medium-sized workpieces when developing the new machine concept,” says President Lutz Abel. “For many of our customers, an extremely flexible and dynamic machine is essential for efficient manufacturing. The PR I, the smallest machine of the PR series, fulfills precisely these demands.” The PR I has not been “scaled down” from the PR II, but is a new design with a strict focus on the most economical solution for the customer. However, many of its components have proven themselves in other boring mills by UnionChemnitz.
The PR I has been designed to achieve the highest dynamism and flexibility. Its Y-axis can be expanded to up to 4.5 m, the X-axis even to 40 m. These dimensions allow for the machining of very different parts – a significant advantage for contract manufacturers, among others. With the adjustable boring spindle in combination with the adjustable RAM, surfaces and bores even deep within the workpiece can be machined with the utmost precision. A large number of additional components and equipment are available to further expand the application range – from different machining units to rotary, tilting and traversing tables.
Efficiency is one of the most important requirements of many UnionChemnitz customers, contract manufacturers in particular. Comprehensive automation technology is available in order to further cut machining times for small to medium-sized workpieces. This includes an automatic tool changer, workpiece and tool measuring devices and a pick-up station.
